Digital Access Audit

At EMBED we help our clients to transform organisations by developing a culture of inclusion to accommodate customers, visitors, employees and service users by considering their access needs and/or cultural or individual differences.

In an ever-changing world, particularly during this period of post lockdown re-opening and recovery, your website is an essential resource for informing, engaging and serving customers, visitors and service users. And it’s essential that your website is accessible in order to provide equal access and opportunities to engage for disabled people and to help all visitors navigate your website with ease to find the content that you want them to enjoy.

Through our Digital Access Audit, we can help you gain an understanding of the lived experience of your website users and analyse your website performance and usability. All designed to help you to embed inclusion in a hands-on way.

The detail

Digital Diagnostic

We will carry out a digital diagnostic of your existing website using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)  as a guide. This will focus on:

  • Usability for physical, cognitive and sensory conditions and / or impairments
  • Level of good practice against WCAG standards
  • Ease of navigation and usability for all visitors to the site
  • Current implemented accessibility tools
  • Site structure and mapping
  • Design, format and contrast
  • Font and text sizing
  • Imagery and alt tags
  • Redundant links
  • Keyboard and switch use
  • Ability to use assistive technology to navigate the website, e.g. screen readers.

Playback report

We will produce a playback report which will include the following:

  • Identified issues and their impact on conditions and impairments
  • Pragmatic recommended solutions and actions considering during/post lockdown
  • Good practice for spotlighting and replicating
  • Outcomes expected for site visitors upon completion of actions
  • Suggested quick wins, short to medium term changes and longer terms changes required – this will support prioritisation
  • Signposting to useful accessibility tools that can be incorporated to the website
  • Conclusion summary regarding overall level of accessibility and inclusion.

Follow-up reviews

At EMBED we are always focused on ensuring we can support you where possible, and to equip you with the information required to embed the changes – the report is not the end.  Therefore, we will also schedule two follow up reviews.

1. Playback Review - once you have absorbed the Playback report and are ready to start planning, we will:

  • Take you through the findings and any key messages we want to bring out
  • Field any questions or queries you may have
  • Offer further clarity on findings where required
  • Help you to consider next steps.

2. How Are You Getting On? Review – three months in to your action planning and implementing solutions, we will run a further review to:

  • Talk through any changes you have made
  • Offer our thoughts around adherence to the WCAG
  • Identify any further considerations that will support action planning
  • Offer support regarding ask’s to be made of your Web Design supplier
  • Cover any questions you may have.
