The ‘Workplace Passport’ concept has been around for over 10 years. It is a simple toolkit that supports individual employees by documenting any adjustments they may require to contribute to the best of their ability at work. Passports are used in all sectors and by organisations of all sizes.
The most common type of Passport focuses on disability and ill-health, but it can be adapted for colleagues who need support or adjustments in other situations such as caring or parental responsibilities, pregnancy, gender reassignment and religious observance.
We understand that starting a conversation about a health condition, disability or other personal situation can be hard, but finding out how to make a Passport available to all of your employees is a key step on your organisation's journey to inclusion.
Using our extensive experience of developing and supporting the implementation of Passports, we have created the ‘EMBED Workplace Passport’ template and an affordable, tailored support package to help you to embed the passport across your organisation.
Identify your Passport audience in consultation with any Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) employee groups to allow them to share thoughts on how to tailor the Passport for full inclusion.
Implement a Workplace Adjustment Process to sit behind the Passport by completing a workplace adjustment policy and process audit in consultation with D&I employee groups.
Decide which Line of Business or department (HR, D&I) should own the Passport, agree a Terms of Reference and version control process and nominate a senior champion or sponsor.
Deliver a train the trainer session for nominated employees prior to Passport launch.
